Job site reports 54% increase in IT contract roles advertised

Posted Apr 27, 2010

A leading IT job site has seen a 54% increase in the number of contract roles advertised during the first quarter of 2010, suggesting that the worst may be over for the contract market.

The IT Job Board has reported a 16% increase in the number of advertised IT position on its site, with the total number of roles advertised now standing at over 21,000.

The main in-demand skills according to the site continue to be IT management, project management, IT support, and SQL and software engineers - although most positions in these areas tend to be permanent.

There has also been a "significant demand" for more specialist roles, such as IT security and .net - with security roles up 67% compared to the last quarter of 2009, and .net roles up by just over 50%.

Alex Farrell, MD of The IT Job Board commented:

"We have continued to see a rapid rise in the number of positions being advertised in the first quarter of 2010, a real sign that the market is bouncing back."
