New chairman for Service Providers Association (SPA)

Posted Jan 8, 2010

The Service Providers Association, which represents some of the UK's leading umbrella and accountancy firms, has appointed a new chairman.

The SPA, which represents companies who provide employment, payroll, tax, accountancy, administrative support and advice to the professional freelance workforce, has announced the appointment of Stuart Davis as their new Chairman from January 2010.

Davis started his professional career as an engineering contractor working via his own limited company, before working in a number of recruitment and staffing roles. By 1999, he was recruited by U.S based Day & Zimmerman Corporation to create and establish a U.K. based Technology staffing business. As MD of Yoh Staffing Solutions, Stuart was responsible for all aspects of the business, from inception to the strategic sale of the $20m turnover operation.

The Association says it views the new appointment as a means of kick-starting their integrated 2010 campaign designed to highlight the central value of the professional freelance workforce to the UK economy and unique operations of the service provider industry to government, media and other key influencers.

Davis commented:

"I'm delighted to be taking up my new position as Chairman of SPA. 2010 presents a real opportunity for SPA to build upon the excellent work achieved throughout 2009, which saw the launch of a code of conduct welcomed by HMRC. First and foremost, we exist to give a voice to the professional freelance workforce, conveying the intricacies if its processes to key stakeholders and cementing its indispensable value to the UK economy. Looking forward, we're keen to continue to increase our membership and cement our position as a body which can offer real insight into a burgeoning industry within a changing political landscape."
