Limited Company Contractors no longer need to appoint a Company Secretary

The Companies Act 2006 is literally the longest piece of legislation ever enacted, running into 701 sections.

For IT Contractors who run their own limited companies, several parts of the Act came into effect on 6th April 2008 (most Government legislation commences in either April or October of each year).

One of the most relevant changes for IT Contractors is in the appointment of a Company Secretary - this is now an optional requirement. If you decide to ditch your current Secretary, you will need to inform Companies House using Form 288b (or most likely, your accountant can arrange this for you).
