File your P35 online this year and receive a tax-free cash sum from HMRC

Limited company contractors can claim a £75 reward by filing their employer annual returns (P35) online this year.

You are eligible to claim the tax-free sum even if your accountant files on your behalf.

What is a P35?

The P35 is the end of year return which must be completed by all employers. The form contains details of all tax and national insurance deducted during the previous tax year for all employees. In the case of may contractor limited companies, there will only be one employee - the director.

Each year, employers must submit a P14 for each employee. The P35 summarises the details for all employees in the company.

Your P35 must be submitted to HMRC by 19th May. Although paper returns are still accepted, HMRC is keen to encourage people to submit forms online before this becomes mandatory.

How to file online

Chances are, your contractor accountant will take care of this for you. If not, you first need to register to use the HMRC 'PAYE online for employers' service. It can take in excess of a week to receive your PIN to access the service, so make sure you get started well in advance of the 19th May deadline.

Even if your accountant files on your behalf, all small business employers are still eligible to qualify for a £75 rebate for using the online service. You might want to mention this to your accountant just to be sure that they apply for the rebate on your behalf.
