National Freelancers Day - 23rd November 2009

The leading contractor representative body has declared 23rd November 2009 'National Freelancers Day'.

The Professional Contractors Group, which recently celebrated its tenth anniversary, has made the announcement to acknowledge the contribution made to the UK economy by freelancers, contractors and consultants.

National Freelancers Day will highlight several issues of particular interest to the contracting community:

Key Issues

- Fair and equitable taxation (a reference to 'IR35' in particular)

- The right to work as a freelancer / contractor

- Government to make it easier for clients to engage freelancers / contractors

- Recognition that freelancers / contractors are in business on their own account

- Freelancing / Contracting to be respected as a valid career choice and an essential ingredient in the success of "UK PLC".
