Recruitment agency reports sharp rise in IT job vacancies

Posted Jul 23, 2010

A specialist recruitment agency has reported a sharp rise in the number of registered IT jobs during the second quarter of 2010.

CV Screen compared the number of registered vacancies during the second quarter of 2009 with the same period in 2010 and reported an increase of 47%. During the same period of time the number of applicants per role had declined from 295 to 187 - a considerable drop of 36%.

Over the past two years on Contract Eye, we have published a stream of contrary reports on the state of the market, however the vast majority of recent market statistics point to a sustained upturn in IT vacancies, which can only be encouraging for contractors.

CV Screen's Matthew Iveson commented:

"We believe that the affect the recession had on the IT Jobs market is beginning to diminish. Companies are growing in confidence and in turn looking to recruit more staff. They are now able to plan for the future with more certainty."

"The drop in applications per role could well be a sign that IT professionals are being more selective in the roles they apply for. We have seen them place more importance on career prospects and training that a role offers, rather than just the financial rewards"

"We have also seen that more candidates are leaving their roles out of choice, rather than due to reasons such as redundancy. This is a sure sign that the IT Jobs market is heading back towards pre-recession levels"
