Culture of "bullying" within IT Industry

Computer Weekly recently ran a story on bullying within the workplace. Following research by the Unite trade union, CW readers wrote in to describe their experiences within the IT industry.

According to CW, bullying can often start where IT managers do not know much about the technology in use on their projects.

"A lot of bullying in IT is down to some senior managers being 'hands-off' from a technical point of view and feeling threatened by the knowledge of subordinates...

"To cover their incompetence they would purposefully deceive."

The article also describes the experience of one particularly unlucky IT Contractor who was bullied as a permie.

The contractor said: "I was given meaningless tasks, unsolvable problems, put at a desk in the farthest corner of the office facing a wall, excluded from meetings, and had development plans removed."
