New IR35 services for contractor accountants

Posted Dec 1, 2009

Employment status experts, Bauer and Cottrell, have launched two new services aimed at helping contractor accountancy service providers with IR35 issues.

Connect

The first product, 'Connect', is a new annual membership service offering IR35 support to accountants and their staff. The service provides 24/7 telephone support on all IR35 issues whether providers have a technical question or just need a second opinion on a clause in a contract. Connect members also benefit from generous discounts for all their clients on our services together with a quarterly newsletter. The service costs £150 plus VAT and those that sign up by 24 December 2009 qualify for one free IR35 contract review for a chosen client.

IR35 training

IR35 training workshops are also available for provider's staff and can be arranged on a one to one basis or in small groups. Costs are £550 plus VAT with additional people from the same firm costing £350 plus VAT. Workshops will cover all the key status issues, the importance of working practices, example contracts and what to look for together with the interaction of IR35 with other legislation and particular occupations that are automatically caught by IR35.

Kate Cottrell told us that these new services have been launched to meet the needs of providers as many freelancers now expect IR35 advice as part of the service rather than as an additional cost. With HMRC's stringent new penalties and the need for contractors to demonstrate they have taken "reasonable care" over their IR35 status, the pressure is on the providers to get IR35 right.
